The images, filmed by customers present in the shopping center, show the robber with his face covered by a balaclava and dressed in a dark jacket, methodically destroying the windows of the Gilles jewelry store with a crowbar.
The crime took place on Sunday, December 8, at 7:00 p.m., during one of the busiest times at the Parque das Nações shopping center. In the videos, you can see other people watching the scene in bewilderment as the robber breaks the display cases and takes the jewelry.
After collecting the gold items, the man attempted to flee through the shopping center corridors, dropping some objects during his escape. Witnesses reported that some customers picked up items that had fallen on the floor, behavior that authorities are expected to investigate.
Quick arrest
The escape was short-lived. Security guards at the shopping center managed to intercept the robber before he could leave the premises. The Public Security Police (PSP), who were already at the scene, proceeded to arrest him.
The suspect appeared in court on Monday, where he was given the most severe coercive measure: preventive detention. The stolen items were valued at around €20,000.
The case gained widespread attention on social media, with videos of the robbery going viral within hours.
